Robert William Shreder, 88, of Attica passed away at his home on June 21, 2017 surrounded by his family. The youngest of 14 children, he was born to the late Louis and Catherine Shreder. Robert was raised on the family farm in Alexander and resided in Attica for 63 years with his beloved Barbara “Babe” also deceased.
He was an ironworker with the local Union 6. Robert was known as “Attica Bob” by construction crews. He worked on numerous noteworthy local projects including the old War Memorial, the Skyway and the walls of the Attica Correctional Facility. In his early years, he owned a pool hall on Exchange St. where he acquired his nickname “Peanuts”. He was affectionately called “Tips” by close friends. Robert served in the Korean War from 1950-53 as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, operating as an Artillery Gunner. His passion and love for turkey and deer hunting was immense and he was featured several times in local newspapers for his achievements.
He also loved playing cards, going for car rides in the countryside, collecting antiques and quick drives to Hagen’s pool.
Robert was the father of Paula (Norman) Jones of Java Center, Raymond Shreder of Attica, Patricia (John) Ryan of Bennington, Joanne (Walter) Robinson of Attica and special godson Joseph Reynolds of Buffalo. Great joy came from the love of his grandchildren, Robert “Bo” Shreder, Denley “Big D” Ryan, Lewis “Little Lew” Ryan and Ruth “Ruthie” Robinson.

For those who knew Peanuts, an 11:00AM Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Joachim & Anne Parish 50 East Ave. Attica, NY 14011. Services will be followed by a Military Procession to St. Vincent’s Cemetery. A reception celebrating his life will be held at 1:00PM at his home on North Walnut St.
