Attica - Joanne L. Mazur, 89, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Gateway Home Attica. Born October 25, 1935, in Crittenden to Casper "Jim" and Josephine (Hendricks) Snyder.
Matriarch, confidante, playmate and steadfast friend, the eldest daughter in a family of seven, Joanne often missed school to care for her younger siblings and eventually her bedridden mother for many years. She had a green thumb, loved birds & being in nature, adored books, garage-saling and driving cross-country to the deserts of the Southwest for cactus & geodes.
A devoted genealogist, Joanne collected records before the era of ancestry.com. Strengthening connections of generations, past and present, co-created the Snyder Family Reunion in 1969. Known for her unwavering faith and nurturing spirit, she prayed for loved ones and strangers alike, emphasizing respect, love, family, and peace; but most of all laughter.
Joanne is survived by step-daughter Debbie Paschke of Lake Forest, CA; siblings Edward (Linda) Snyder of E. Bethany, Kathy (late Chuck) Hephner of Alexander, Daniel (Rae) Snyder of E. Bethany; sister-in-law, Cathy Snyder of Cowlesville. She is the beloved aunt of three generations of adoring nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Joanne is reunited in death with her husband, Joseph Mazur; brothers, David Snyder, Norman (Elsie) Snyder, Joseph Snyder; son-in-law Ray Paschke; nephews Jonathon VanHorn and Tucker Snyder.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street in Attica. Joanne's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, (April 3, 2025 ) St. John Neumann Parish - St. Vincent's Worship Site, 50 East Avenue in Attica. Joanne's name became synonymous for unconditional love, compassion, and fun. It is the ultimate compliment for any of us to be told that we are ‘like Aunt Joanne”.
