Allyson B. Motz (Hadler) aged 101 and a half, went home to be with the Lord on March 3rd at Luther Acres in Lititz, PA. She is the daughter of Howard and Emma D. Hadler. She began life’s journey on June 4, 1923, in Buffalo, NY.
After high school graduation in 1941, she worked at Curtiss Wright Aircraft where she met her future husband. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy WAVES on November 14, 1944, to honor her late Uncle’s death in Naval bootcamp in 1919. She was stationed in Washington, D.C. where she worked in Naval Communications. Allyson proudly held a copy of the Japanese surrender as it was transmitted to headquarters. According to Allyson, serving in the Navy was the best decision of her life and a life-long source of pride. After discharge, Allyson married the love of her life James W. Motz on December 3, 1945, in Buffalo. After raising four children in Attica, Buffalo, Syracuse, New York, and Denville, New Jersey, they retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1989. She enjoyed bocci, ceramics, and creating her legacy of voluminous volumes of family history. Allyson also participated in many Shriners activities with her husband Jim. For many years, Jim and Allyson were also known by their clown personas, Patches and Mrs. Patches and participated in many parades.
After the death of her husband in 2008, she moved to Lititz, PA and to Luther Acres the following year where she made many friends and became involved with the Lititz Senior Center for many years. Her hobbies grew to include working on jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring books, and avidly watching NASCAR, Buffalo Bills, Syracuse and Navy team sports. Allyson is predeceased by her husband James, eldest daughter Patricia Motz-Eustace, and son Kevin A. Motz Sr. She is survived by her son J. Richard Motz (Wendy) of Lititz, daughter Deborah Motz- Morgan (Richard) of Mount Tabor, NJ, and daughter-in-law Kathy Turnmire of Lenoir, NC. Allyson is cherished by her grandchildren Brian Motz (Tracy), Samantha Motz (Misty), Daniel Morgan, Lora Morgan, Kevin A. Motz Jr. (Amy), Amy Motz-Myers (Jordan). She is the proud Great-Grandmother of Maeix Myers, Celest Motz, Elizabeth Motz, Ian Motz, Brihyana Myers, and Colin Motz. Her family and friends were rewarded with her infamous hugs which are her living legacy.
A memorial service will be held at Luther Acres on March 22 in the Community room at 2:30 PM. Burial will occur at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Attica, New York.
